Technology Integration in your classroom
Reader's Theater on the IPAD is a way to enhance your classroom's creativity using a simple App and an IPAD.

If you are looking for a fun way of performing Reader's Theater in a first grade classroom while using technology, then simply download the MouthOff App on your IPAD. This is a great way to incorporate small scripts which can be attached to the back of the IPAD in order for the students to have a clearer view on the specific script. Students are able to get into character and not feeling nervous about performing in front of their peers. Once the App is downloaded, the students can choose a certain mouth that fits their character the best. Each mouth has a specific look that starts moving once the student begins speaking. This method can be very beneficial especially for a young audience. It keeps the students engage and eager to learn more about Reader's Theater.

Finding Fabulous Financial Literacy Vocabulary With Fancy Nancy Deborah Kozdras, Ph.D.
In the Fancy Nancy series, the author introduces a variety of “fancy” words, which include descriptive vocabulary words. In Fancy Nancy and the Fabulous Fashion Boutique, there are many economics vocabulary words embedded in the text. These words relate both to the economics standards in social studies, as well as real-world mathematics and financial literacy. Through a think-aloud read-aloud, the lesson will illuminate key economic vocabulary embedded in the text, as well as illustrate how to introduce key economic concepts through think-alouds and talking/writing about the text. The concepts/vocabulary will be introduced in the story and reinforced through a variety of ReadWriteThink interactive tools.
Readers Theatre With Jan Brett Kary A. Johnson
In this lesson, students in grades 1–2 interact with the book Hedgie's Surprise by Jan Brett and create a Readers Theatre that is performed for an audience. Students make predictions about the story prior to reading and listen to a read-aloud of the story. Postreading, they make observations about the characters, setting, and plot. The focus on the literary elements of the story leads students to create costumes, props, and sets for the final Readers Theatre performance. Although Readers Theatre does not typically employ such devices, the use of costumes and sets affords early elementary students a better understanding of the story.
